Vi. Shapoval et al., HIGH-TEMPERATURE ELECTROCHEMICAL SYNTHESIS OF CARBIDES, SILICIDES, AND BORIDES OF GROUP VIA METALS IN IONIC MELTS, Russian journal of applied chemistry, 67(6), 1994, pp. 828-833
On the basis of thermodynamic analysis of the chemical and electrochem
ical reactions that provide the foundation for high-temperature electr
ochemical synthesis, possible variants, systems, and conditions are de
termined for the electrosynthesis of carbides, silicides, and borides
of chromium, molybdenum, and tungsten. Within the thermodynamic regime
, the electrosynthesis of molybdenum and tungsten carbide powders was
performed from halide--oxide melts under excess carbon dioxide pressur
e and from tungstate-molybdate-carbonate oxide melts. Within the kinet
ic regime the electrosynthesis of the powders of silicides and borides
of chromium, molybdenum, and tungsten was performed. Oxide and halide
--oxide electrolytes were developed for electroplating with molybdenum
and tungsten carbides.
