Some characteristic occupational diseases with cutaneous tumors are of
geriatric interest with respect to their long latency periods and lif
elong successive multiple tumor growth. Physical or chemical carcinoge
nic agents influence workers in different professions (for example: UV
-carcinogenesis in nearly all outdoor workers). Occupational diseases,
however, are only diseases by specific agents without comparable expo
sitions in other professions. In germany, three characteristic entitie
s with neoplastic lesions of the skin are listed as occupational disea
ses: chronic systemic intoxication by arsenic (for example in copper s
melters), tumors caused by chronic topical influences of pitch, tars,
oils, crude paraffin etc., and tumors emerging in primary chronic radi
odermatitis.
