The authors present information on the susceptibility to various disin
fectants of some important pathogens in aquaculture, with special refe
rence to the farming of salmonids. Practical disinfection procedures f
or nse in the aquaculture industry are then described, on the basis of
experience obtained in Norway and in other countries with a large sal
mon-farming industry. In addition to routine disinfection at aquacultu
re sites, the authors also describe disinfection procedures for use in
outbreaks of notifiable diseases, as well as the treatment/disinfecti
on of waste water and offal from the slaughtering and processing of aq
uaculture products.
