Abstract
The development of molecular methods for genetic manipulation of arthr opods not only creates exciting new opportunities for altering genomes of both pest and beneficial arthropods, but also requires new respons ibilities of both researchers and regulatory agencies if the transgeni c strains are ever to be deployed in pest management programs. These i ssues are discussed here by Marjorie Hoy.
