The use of fast growing cultivars, in herbaceous cotton (G. hirsutum L
. var. latifolium Hutch..) has been suggested as an important cohabiti
ng strategy among boil weevil (Anthonomus grandis Boheman) and cotton
crop, in the northeast region of Brazil. These cultivars were recommen
ded after the introduction of the pest in this country. The objective
of this trial was to compare the adaptability and stability of CNPA Pr
ecoce I (fast growing cultivar) and CNPA 6H (late growing cultivar). T
he bi-segmented model of Eberhart and Russel (1986) and Cruz et al. (1
989), was used. The result showed that CNPA Precoce I was more stable
than CNPA 6H under unfavorable conditions, but CNPA 6H was more respon
sive under favorable locations.
