A 22-year-old woman had right unilateral proptosis. Evaluation reveale
d a large intraconal orbital mass, consistent with cavernous hemangiom
a. The mass was removed via a lateral orbitotomy, Histopathology, conf
irmed by electron microscopy, demonstrated fibroblasts with inflammato
ry histiocytes, but there was no evidence of cavernous hemangioma. To
our knowledge, this is the first description of a well-circumscribed i
ntraconal mass diagnosed as orbital inflammatory syndrome.
