Abstract
France is the most important producer of rainbow trout (Oncorynchus my kiss) in Europe, producing about 50000 tons a year. Major infectious a nd parasitic diseases, described in the world, have been reported. Ent eric redmouth, cold water disease and furunculosis are bacterial disea ses frequently diagnosed. Parasitic diseases do not cause problems in the intensive fish farming system. On the other hand infectious Pancre atic Necrosis (IPN) is a real problem for fry and many piscicultures a re infected. Control of Viral Haemorrhagic Septicaemia (VHS) and Infec tious Haematopoietic Necrosis (IHN) is effected by sanitary measures i ncluding diagnosis methods, control methods and certification procedur es. An eradication programme has been highly effective and, today, man y fish farms are free for VHS and MN viruses.
