Abstract
A ten-year-old girl admitted for recurrent pneumococcal meningitis was found upon computed tomography with metrizamide to have a petrospheno idal meningocele. The meningocele was removed and the fistula closed v ia the subtemporal approach. There were no further episodes of meningi tis. The etiopathogenesis, imaging, and surgical treatment of these ex ceedingly rare congenital defects are reviewed.
