The time course of changes in the capacity of synchronized yeast cells
to be covalently immobilized was determined and interpreted as an ind
ication of chronological changes in the cell's outer-wall proteins. Co
rroborative evidence was obtained indicating that these transient chan
ges are dependent on protein synthesis and connected with the progress
ion of the cell cycle through the late S and/or early G2 phases.
