Biosynthesis of extracellular alkaline ribonucleases (RNases) in Bacil
lus pumilus is studied and compared with the regularities of RNase bio
synthesis in Bacillus intermedius. It was established that B. pumilus
RNase is an enzyme of the second growth phase. Inorganic phosphate inh
ibits while actinomycin D stimulates RNase biosynthesis both in B. pum
ilus and B. intermedius. However, dynamics of enzyme accumulation, the
degree of RNase biosynthesis inhibition with phosphate, and sporulati
on conditions substantially differ in these cultures.
