Abstract
Knowledge based potentials and energy functions are extracted from a n umber of databases of known protein structures. Recent developments ha ve shown that this type of potential is successful in many areas of pr otein structure research. Among these are quality assessment and error recognition of folds and the prediction of unknown structures by fold -recognition techniques.
