Insertion of nitric oxide into one W-C bond a bis(trimethylsilyl)tungs
ten complex results in formation of a bidentate N-trimethylsilylmethyl
-N-nitrosohydroxylaminato ligand. The resulting complex, (eta(5)-cyclo
pentadienyl)nitrosyl(trimethylsilyl- thylsilylmethyl-N-nitrosohydroxyl
aminato)tungsten, [W(NO)(C5H5)(C4H11N2O2Si)(C4H11Si)], crystallizes in
space group P $($) over bar$$ 1, Z = 4 (two molecules per asymmetric
unit). The two independent molecules are almost identical and have a f
our-legged piano stool structure with a five-coordinate W atom.
