-Tetrachloro-1',2',4',5'-tetramethyl-6'-phenoxy-6' zene-2-spiro-3'-cyc
lodi[lambda(5)-phosphadiazane], C10H17Cl4N7OP4S, was synthesized in ou
r laboratory from hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene and bis(N,N'-dimethylh
ydrazido)thiophosphoric acid phenyl ester in THF in the presence of tr
iethylamine. The cyclotriphosphazene part of the molecule consists of
the expected nearly planar ring, whereas the saturated six-membered ph
osphorus hydrazine ring adopts a strongly twisted conformation with P-
N-N-P torsion angles of -68.5 (5) and -74.7 (5)degrees and C-N-N-C tor
sion angles of -91.6 (7) and -85.6 (7)degrees. The N-N mean bond dista
nce of 1.420 (8) Angstrom is in good agreement with other P-v-hydrazin
e ring compounds.
