The cadmium(II), mercury(II) and lead(II) nitrate complexes of 2,6-dia
cetylpyridinedihydrazone (L) have been prepared and formulated as [CdL
(H2O)(2)] [Cd(NO3)(4)], [Cd(2)L(3)(H2O)(2)](NO3)(4), [CdL(2)](NO3)(2),
[HgL(2)](NO3)(2), [PbL(NO3)](NO3) and [Pb(2)L(3)](NO3)(4) on the basi
s of spectral data (IR, H-1 and C-13 NMR) and elemental analysis. The
correlation of the nature of metal ion and preparative conditions with
the stoichiometry and bonding mode of both ligand and nitrate ions is
discussed. In the cadmium(II) and lead(II) complexes with the metal t
o ligand stoichiometry equal to 2:3 the occurrence of both bidentate a
nd tridentate bonding type of hydrazone within one metal complex is ob
served.
