M. Marczewski et H. Marczewska, MANGANESE CATALYSTS FOR METHANE TRANSFORMATIONS IN THE ABSENCE OF OXYGEN, Polish Journal of Chemistry, 69(6), 1995, pp. 956-965
The catalytic activity and physicochemical properties of supported man
ganese oxide catalysts were studied. It was found that MnOx/silica and
MnOx/silicaalumina systems catalysed methane coupling reaction in the
absence of oxygen while MnOx supported on alumina was inactive. Catal
ytic activity depends on the nature of redox centres of the MnOx surfa
ce phase. Mn2O3 phase present on alumina catalyses both hydrocarbons f
ormation from methane and their pyrolysis. Active sites of braunite ph
ase, formed on silica and silicaalumina supports, are able to activate
only C-II bonds of the hydrocarbons and catalyse methane transformati
on into C-2-C-3 hydrocarbons.
