Full column of soft sediments was obtained by gravity cores from a sur
face flattened by stream and wave erosion in the western part of the C
ampeche Bank (depth 51-53 m). These sediments cover hard ground formed
by coral limestone or carbonate sandstone. Deposition of soft sedimen
tary material started with the sea transgression 10-11 thousand years
ago as a result of the sea level uplift after Wurm glaciation. Paleoce
anological reconstructions were accomplished as a result of grain-size
determination of bottom sediments, investigation of chemical composit
ion and biogenic carbonate remains.
