Methods for the solution of non-LTE partial frequency redistribution (
PRD) radiative transfer problems are presented. By explicitly treating
the partial frequency coherence, convergence difficulties caused by u
sing a Complete Redistribution Approximation are completely overcome.
A new core-wing treatment of the redistribution both avoids the explic
it solution of the frequency coupled system, and permits the use of si
mple Approximate Operator Iteration to solve PRD problems extremely ef
ficiently.
