Abstract
Beginning in 1985, an ACHA task force studied national health objectiv es to determine how well colleges and universities were achieving nati onally defined health goals. The task force found that the college-age d population was not specifically recognized as a concern among health planners and that little consistent data on the health status of stud ents existed. The task force worked closely with federal agencies in i dentifying relevant issues and focusing on the higher education commun ity's commitment to disease promotion and positive health behaviors.
