Abstract
Passive and hybrid modelockings are achieved in a multi-electrode dist ributed Bragg reflector laser with two gain sections. Nonuniform injec tion in the two gain sections is found to play an important role in su ppressing the saturated gain level in a long gain section and in achie ving passive modelocking. By applying electrical modulation to the abs orber, hybrid modelocking is realised. Nearly transform-limited picose cond pulses are obtained after fibre compression with a low timing jit ter and a low duly ratio.
