LOWER BARREMIAN AMMONITE BIOSTRATIGRAPHY IN THE SUBBETIC DOMAIN (BETIC CORDILLERA, SOUTHERN SPAIN)

An ammonite zonation for the Lower Barremian and lowermost Upper Barre mian in the pelagic Subbetic Domain (Betic Cordillera, southern Spain) is presented in this paper. Most of the zones used in the standard sc ale for the Mediterranean Region (Hoedemaeker et al., 1993) are retain ed; only the H. caillaudianus Zone has been rejected and replaced by t he S. compressissima and M. moutonianum Zones. All the biostratigraphi c units are, for the first time, formally defined and characterized. C orrelations with the standard zonation and other scales proposed for t his interval in the Mediterranean Region are discussed.
