CALCAREOUS NANNOFOSSIL STRATIGRAPHY OF MAASTRICHTIAN SECTIONS IN ISRAEL

Calcareous nannofossil assemblages were examined from three sections s ampled in Israel, and a detailed zonation was erected based on the mos t continuous of these. The following zones were identified: Quadrum tr ifidum, Arkhangelskiella cymbiformis, Lithraphidites quadratus, Nephro lithus frequens and Micula prinsii. The Arkhangelskiella cymbiformis Z one was further subdivided into two subzones: Reinhardtites levis and Lithraphidites praequadratus. The palaeogeographic and palaeoenvironme ntal setting of the sections suggested by the assemblages, are discuss ed.
