This model is organized into three distinct interacting structures: th
e extracellular fluid (ECF), the intracellular fluid (ICF), and the in
tracellular organelles that represent the calcium pool, Expression of
the membrane current between ECF and ICF was the sum of seven ionic ch
annels using the Hodgkin-Huxley gating mechanism, three leakage curren
ts, Na-Ca exchange, and an electrogenic Na-K pump. Ionic flow between
organelles and the ECF was the result of passive diffusion of Mg and C
a ions and active transport of Ca-Mg-ATPase. The Potential difference
between ECF and sarcoplasmic reticulum was neglected. Using this model
, the action potential in normal Tyrode's and various other solutions
was simulated.
