Dj. Bae et al., VIBRATING REED TECHNIQUE AND ITS APPLICATION TO MAGNETOELASTICITY MEASUREMENTS OF AN AMORPHOUS ALLOY FE90ZR10, Journal of the Korean Physical Society, 28, 1995, pp. 218-223
As a part of the on-going effort to test the electron-phonon interacti
on theory of metallic magnetism, we developed the vibrating reed techn
ique to measure the Young's modulus of amorphous ribbons. We show that
this technique is ideal for the measurements of the elastic modulus o
f amorphous metallic ribbons to which more conventional ultrasonic met
hods are not applicable. Since the thermoelastic relaxation effects ar
e negligible, this method yields the internal friction as well as the
Young's modulus directly associated with the magnetic ordering. The me
thod is applied to investigate the magnetoelasticity of amorphous Fe90
Zr10 near the Curie temperature. The implication of the results in the
context of the electron-phonon interaction theory is briefly discusse
d.
