Recent seismological observations indicate that the Earth's crust is a
bundant in stress/strain waves in addition to ordinary seismic waves.
I present an earthquake fault model based on the theological propertie
s of the crust to address such crustal dynamics. This model is consist
s of a uniform chain of blocks and springs basically similar with the
Burridge and Knopoff (1967)[1] model but a simple ductile regime is in
troduced. Simulations show existence of irregular deformation patterns
and propagation of kink type waves that may account for real observat
ions.
