Based on the TEM observations of the morphologies of the blends under
small stretching process, this communication reports the results for t
he toughness and deformation mechanisms of two typical blends in which
the tough component LDPE is minor(LDPE/PS=20/80) and major(LDPE/PS=80
/20) constituents respectively. It is found that multi-craze is the ma
in toughness and deformation mechanism when LDPE is the dispersed phas
e, while microbands caused by shear-yielding becomes major one while L
DPE is continuous phase.
