Abstract
A certain number of extracerebral diseases may cause seizures by chang ing the metabolism of the brain. These diseases include hypoglycemia, hypoxia, hypocalcemia, uremic and hepatic encephalopathy, various into xications and hypothyroidism. The diagnosis can be made in most cases upon results of blood work and urinalysis. Pathogenesis, clinical symp toms, differential diagnosis, diagnosis as well as treatment and progn osis of extracerebral diseases are discussed. Approximatively 10 perce nt of all seizures are due to extracerebral disorders.
