P. Lebois et al., MODELING OF A DRUM DRYER HEATED BY NATURA L-GAS BURNER FOR TEXTILE INDUSTRIES, Revue générale de thermique, 34(399), 1995, pp. 247-255
Modelling of a drum dryer heated by natural gas burner for textile ind
ustries. Drying on heated drums is a widely used technique in the weav
ing and textile finishing industries. In 1992, Gaz de France, the Fren
ch Textile Institute and a private company, AGI, with financial suppor
t by the ADEME, conducted a study to optimize and model a drying drum
heated directly by natural gas. This article describes the studies req
uired to characterize the phenomena involved : - internal hot-air tran
sfer (bibliographical study and physical simulation), - fabric drying
on a heated surface. The finite differences method is used to model th
e mass and heat transfers, which ave then validated by tests on an exp
erimental drier. The findings show that the model is a useful tool, ev
en though certain parameters require move precise analysis.
