REEXAMINATION OF 6 TAXA DESCRIBED IN LEPTOSPHAERIA FROM SPECIES IN THE RANUNCULACEAE

Six fungal species previously placed in Leptosphaeria and originally d escribed on plant species in the Ranunculaceae were reevaluated for th eir proper taxonomic position and redescribed and illustrated from the type and authentic materials. The original position of Leptosphaeria nigromaculata as Ophiobolus nigromaculata is confirmed. Metasphaeria r upicola is transferred to Massarina, and a lectotype is designated. Le ptosphaeria scotophila and Leptosphaeria thorae are transferred to Pha eosphaeria, and a lectotype is designated for L. scotophila. The previ ous transfer of Leptosphaeria anthostomoides to Montagnula anthostomoi des is confirmed. The new genus Barrella is established and typified b y Leptosphaeria thalictri, and a neotype is designated.
