Age at first calving is a character of much economic importance to the
cattle breeder. Attempts have been made for reduction in age at first
carving by many workers in order to economise livestock production be
cause it affects the life time production of the animals and the genet
ic improvement in the breeding plan. An early age at first calving wou
ld reduce the unproductive period of our cattle and hence increase the
ir life productin, besides decreasing the generation interval (Saika a
nd Sharma, 1977), The variation in the cliamtic conditions and availab
ility of feeds and fodder influence the age at first calving.
