The presence of four resonance peaks from two nitrogen atoms in the N-
14 nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) spectrum of 1,8-bis(dimethylamin
o)naphthalene (DMAN) confirms the asymmetry of this molecule in the cr
ystal. Spectroscopic parameters such as transition frequencies as well
as the asymmetry parameters of the electric field gradient (EFG) tens
ors and differences in sigma bond occupation numbers have been assigne
d to particular nitrogen atoms in the molecule.
