K. Sekigawa et al., SMOKE SUPPRESSION FOR POLY(VINYL CHLORIDE) BY IRON-ORGANIC POLYMER SYSTEMS, Journal of organometallic chemistry, 494(1-2), 1995, pp. 1-4
Polyvinylferrocene mixed with poly(methyl methacrylate) or polystyrene
(9:1 weight ratio) and 1,1'-dibenzylferrocene were found to exhibit e
fficient smoke-suppressing properties for low filler plasticized poly(
vinyl chloride) at the 0.3-3.0 wt.% loading level of Fe. On heat treat
ment under argon, poly(vinyl chloride) homogenized with polyvinylferro
cene produced predominantly alpha-Fe particles together with carboniza
tion product, whereas in air alpha-Fe2O3 was formed preferentially wit
hout the formation of carbonization product.
