A review about state and perspectives of thermodynamic equilibrium mod
elling is given. Possible interactions in the three-phase system solid
-solution-gas are discussed with regard to the quantitative descriptio
n of natural aquatic systems. Basic principles and mathematical formal
isms to compute the interactions solution-gas, solution-solution, solu
tion-precipitate, and solution-solid matrix are described according to
the present state of knowledge. The expressions are adopted into the
newly developed computer model KOMPLEX3.
