We report a case of necrotizing fasciitis caused by streptococcus Lanc
efield Group A, following lower segment Caesarean section, in a previo
usly healthy 30-year-old woman. It reminds all clinicians of the serio
usness of this skin condition, which still has an unacceptably high mo
rtality. Survival depends on early diagnosis. Urgent surgical debridem
ent is needed as soon as the diagnosis Is suspected. The microbiologic
al aspects are discussed.
