Abstract
The transmission of electromagnetic radiation through the nonlinear on e-dimensional photonic bandgap structure with different configurations are comparatively studied. It is found that the quarter-wavelength th ickness arrangement gives rise to a wide window in the visible wavelen gth range. The modulated superlattice scheme only produces a number of narrow windows. The scheme using random layer thickness is expected t o open a very wide window by making use of film nonlinearity when the number of layers is sufficient large. These nonlinear devices can be f abricated by using available materials.
