Abstract
Tunneled polymeric silicone catheters and implantable infusion ports a re used with increasing frequency. Complications may occur with cathet er placement or ongoing use. A new technique is described that minimiz es the risks associated with catheter reinsertion in patients with tun neled polymeric silicone catheters that are either malfunctioning or m ispositioned. This procedure allows for the exchange of these catheter s without incurring the risk of a new venipuncture.
