H. Zinnecker et T. Preibisch, X-RAY-EMISSION AS A TRACER OF CIRCUMSTELLAR MATTER AROUND HERBIG AE BE STARS/, Astrophysics and space science, 224(1-2), 1995, pp. 587-588
We have detected X-ray emission (1 keV) from young intermediate-mass s
tars (Herbig Ae/Be stars). Since these stars are not supposed to produ
ce intrinsic X-ray emission (no convection, no coronae), we believe th
at our results suggest that the X-ray emission actually traces the sho
ck interaction of the Ae/Be star stellar winds with remnant circumstel
lar matter left over from the star formation process, the presence of
which is also indicated by far-infrared (IRAS) and submm/mm continuum
data.
