Abstract
Under evolving network environments which are characterized by the exi stence of heterogeneous network types and multiple carriers, it has be come increasingly important to build networks that meet various user d emands. Network Integration Lab. is currently proposing the main conce pt for network integration (NI) which is to be the basis for the timel y introduction of new services that are beyond the capability of exist ing networks. This paper defines the NI concept and introduces NI serv ices form two perspectives. NI engineering services are defined with r elation to a network life cycle: i.e., requirement analysis, planning/ design, deployment, and operation/maintenance. NI networking services are discussed in terms of coordination functions supported by networks , i.e., enhanced service, management, control, and transport functions . This paper also discusses network evolution scenarios based on the N l concept. It finally presents some concrete service examples and asso ciated enabling methodologies and technologies.
