Mh. Brooker et al., WINDOWLESS CELL FOR FOURIER-TRANSFORM RAMAN-SPECTRA OF LIQUIDS AND AQUEOUS-SOLUTIONS, Journal of Raman spectroscopy, 26(5), 1995, pp. 331-334
Fourier transform (PT) Raman spectra were obtained for water and aqueo
us solutions in a stainless-steel, windowless, liquid captive cell of
simple design. Pt was demonstrated that high-quality Raman spectra in
the low-wavenumber region (down to 100 cm(-1)) can be obtained from hi
ghly colored samples without the presence of interfering bands from th
e usual sample containers made of glass or plastic. Raman bands at 520
and 232 cm(-1) due to the symmetric stretching modes of the Cr-O vibr
ation of the Cr(H2O)(6)(3+) and the Cr-Cl vibration of the CrCl63- com
plexes were observed for very dark samples that are not amenable to co
nventional Raman techniques. FT-Raman studies of aqueous Cr(III) solut
ions can provide valuable information on the slow ligand exchange rate
s.
