Abstract
The Zn mediated reactions of allyl, crotyl and cinnamyl halides with b eta- and gamma-keto esters in THF-NH4Cl(aq) give - by completely selec tive keto allylation and with good yields - beta- and gamma-hydroxy es ters, respectively. The gamma-hydroxy esters were easily and quantitat ively converted to gamma-allyl substituted gamma-butyrolactones in a o ne-pot reaction.
