The addition of dynamic models of loads, machines and sub-transmission
networks to the existing three-phase real-time simulator of Hydro-Que
bec (IREQ), has made available a tool appropriate for the study of pow
er system dynamics in real time. The valid frequency range of the simu
lator, which already covered harmonics up to 2000 Hz, has been extende
d to include machine dynamics in the region of less than 1 Hz. The pap
er describes the models added and also presents some results of the in
tergration of these dynamic models, showing how they compare favorably
with equivalent results obtained using a transient stability simulati
on program.
