Abstract
Planar lightwave circuits (PLCs) are optical de vices which were creat ed by the marriage of optical fiber fabrication and LSI microfabricati on technology. PLCs technology is one of the key technologies for mult imedia communications, This paper describes the development of PLCs fr om the basic concept to recent innovations.
