Wv. Steele et al., THE STANDARD ENTHALPIES OF FORMATION OF 2-METHYLBIPHENYL AND DIPHENYLMETHANE, Journal of Chemical Thermodynamics, 27(6), 1995, pp. 671-678
Measurements of the energies of combustion are reported for 2-methylbi
phenyl (Chemical Abstracts registry number [643-58-3]), and diphenylme
thane (registry number [101-81-5]). Standard enthalpies of combustion
and formation in the condensed state are derived for both compounds. S
tandard enthalpies of vaporization at 298.15 K are reported for both c
ompounds and the corresponding ideal-gas standard enthalpies of format
ion derived. The results are compared with literature values and discr
epancies arising from the use of values for diphenylmethane from a com
prehensive compilation are clarified.
