Hib is one of the main pathogen involved in the new-born meningitis. I
mmunity against Hib decrease rapidly after birth, with a maximum betwe
en 3 and 18 months which is correlated with a peak incidence of mening
itis. We have compared natural immunity against Hib in two populations
of children Living in France and in Africa, according to the age, usi
ng an immunoenzymatic assay (detection of anticapsular antibodies). Re
sults suggest a weaker protective level in african children when compa
red with french children.
