Objective. During the development of a strip casting process it is nec
essary to take account of complex interrelations between the process,
easter and product quality. Theoretical and practical models have been
developed and applied in order to simulate part-processes and thereby
shorten the course of the development. Summary. The direct casting of
steel strip on a double-roller easter is governed by the partly simul
taneous processes of ''solidification'' and ''strip formation.'' The i
nterdisciplinary team of researchers has, among other things, develope
d process models to simulate solidification, roller expansion and the
control of the process. The models have been used to design the easter
as well as to engineer the process control system. The described mode
ls can be applied to design other strip casting systems.
