Abstract
Let F be a free group and R less than or equal to F a characteristic s ubgroup. Automorphisms of FIR which are induced by automorphisms of F are called tame. In this paper we use the N-torsion invariant discover ed by the first author and M. Lustig [LM] to show the existence of non -tame automorphisms of free central extensions and free nilpotent exte nsions of Burnside groups.
