Abstract
The federal government participates significantly in financing medical education, including training of many specialists. Current opinion ho lds that there are too many specialists and too few primary care physi cians. The federal government must exercise greater influence regardin g how its funds for medical education are spent, so as to provide the appropriate workforce for its citizens medical care needs.
