Abstract
The construction and testing of a 2 m straw chamber prototype is descr ibed. We achieved straw alignment of better than 30 mu m and wire alig nment of order 7 mu m while keeping the amount of material to about on e half the amount normally needed for a similar all-wire drift chamber .
