Three new polymers, poly(m-iodophenylacetylene), poly(p-iodophenylacet
ylene) and poly[p-(triisopropylsilylethynyl)phenylacetylene], were pre
pared and their photoelectrical properties were studied, The experimen
tal results suggest that the photogeneration of charge carriers in the
se polymers proceeds via the creation of intermediate Coulomb force bo
und charge pairs and their subsequent dissociation in the external ele
ctric field by the Onsager mechanism. The electron-withdrawing and ele
ctron-donating groups attached to the phenyl ring were found to influe
nce the photogeneration process substantially.
