Abstract
We present BVRI differential magnitude light and colour curves for Nov a Cassiopeiae 1993. The observations commenced a few days before maxim um light, continued until the apparent formation of an optically thick dust shell about 60 days later, and, following a deep and extended mi nimum in its brightness, were resumed approximately five months after maximum light. The data were obtained with an inexpensive CCD camera m ounted on a very small amateur telescope, and the observed light and c olour variations were consistent with the expected behaviour of a clas sical nova. The results demonstrate the research capabilities of relat ively simple and inexpensive instruments.
