Gd. Vos et al., TENSION PNEUMOPERITONEUM AS AN EARLY COMPLICATION AFTER ADENOTONSILLECTOMY, Journal of Laryngology and Otology, 109(5), 1995, pp. 440-441
Pneumoperitoneum as a result of pneumomediastinum has been described a
lready. Amongst the causes pneumoperitoneum due to a complication of a
denotonsillectomy, has not previously been described. We describe a fi
ve-year-old girl with tension pneumoperitoneum with respiratory and ci
rculatory insufficiency half an hour after adenotonsillectomy. Removal
of the intra-abdominal air with a 14 gauge needle restored normal res
piration and circulation.
